Closed Saturday Sept 30 and Sunday Oct 1 for Floors!

If you have been following the Catmandu makeover saga, you know we have some significant issues with our new epoxy floors. In addition to some bubbles, none of them got enough top coat and are impossible to mop. One whole room needs to be completely redone. The contractor has promised to do everything necessary to make them right. He notified me yesterday that they are coming this weekend to do all the work. It will take 2 full days of work for them.

Consequently, Catmandu will be CLOSED to the public and most volunteers on Saturday Sept 30th and Sunday Oct 1st.

It's terrible timing, coming the week after our big re-opening but it's when they can do the work and we have to get these floors fixed!!

Catmandu will resume normal business hours the following week, starting Friday October 6th. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Catmandu LIMITED Re-Opening August 25th
GRAND RE-OPENING SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 23RD

We will not be giving any tours of Catmandu until our

Grand Re-opening on September 23rd.

We are open as of August 25th during regular business hours (Friday thru Sunday 11 am - 5 pm) for adoptions, donations, regular volunteers and cat-related services.

While all major construction work has finally been completed and the entire building re-opened, it is still very much bare bones. Over the next few weeks, staff and volunteers will be working on catification (hanging drawers, installing ramps, steps, shelves, cat perches, etc), finishing touches such as baseboard and polywall, and decorating. The full effect of the makeover won’t be apparent until all of this is done. It is going to take some time to get it all accomplished with just the tiny staff and handful of volunteers available. In addition, both cats and staff need some time to adjust to the new look and feel of Catmandu before they have a lot of visitors. The teeny tiny office staff also needs a chance to get caught up on everything that did not get done during the makeover.

We know you are excited to see the new Catmandu and we are looking forward to showing it off.... just not yet. Thank you for your patience, understanding and support.

Everyone at Catmandu (2-legged, 3-legged and 4-legged) wholeheartedly thanks their core of Catmanduers and those in the community that helped make the much-needed makeover happen through volunteering and/or donating. We are incredibly grateful for the hard work and financial support of everyone that made this revamp possible! After 10 years, the facility was literally falling apart around us. Now we are rock solid and ready to continue helping the cats of northern Nevada for the next 10 years.

MEOW! Means Thank You!!

Catmandu Re-Opening Postponed until August 18, 2023

Thanks to the efforts of a small but extremely dedicated group of Catmandu volunteers as well as some amazing volunteers and donations from the community, the makeover at Catmandu is proceeding at a steady pace. We have made real progress and the place is looking great!

The new roof is on, the water is fixed, almost everything is painted, the old flooring is gone, the sunporch catio is almost done; the list of accomplishments goes on and on.

Unfortunately, there is still a lot of work to be done and everything is taking longer than anticipated. Nothing is ever as easy as you hope and more issues were revealed as we dug into the problem areas.

There is just no way we can have everything done and meet the original re-opening date of July 28.

Consequently, Catmandu will remain closed for renovation until August 18th.

We regret the delay but simply have no choice. It will absolutely be worth the additional time it is taking to get the makeover done. The new Catmandu is going to be amazing when it re-opens August 18th and we will be much better able to help the cats in our care and in the community.

Thank you so much to everyone that has volunteered, donated and supported us during this time! We appreciate your patience and support immensely. We couldn't do it without you. Meow!

Catmandu Makeover - June 19 to July 27, 2023

Almost a decade of helping cats has finally caught up with us at Catmandu. The facility is desperately in need of maintenance, repairs and some necessary improvements. We just can’t put them off any longer.

The combination of an old building, wear and tear from 9+ years, more than 2600 cats through the years, and a to-do list that just gets longer has created issues that can’t be ignored any longer.

The concrete floor is crumbling in numerous places throughout the building, the vinyl floors are peeling up and disintegrating, we’ve physically scrubbed the paint off the walls in a whole bunch of places, the roof needs to be replaced, interior damage from the roof leaks needs to be repaired, the window catios need new floors and screen, the big catio needs new ramps, numerous wood cat structures and cabins need maintenance and paint, one of the watermains is leaking, the list goes on and on.

Consequently, we are going to be closed to the public from June 19 through July 28 to give Catmandu a much-needed makeover. We will not be answering calls or emails, taking surrenders, or doing adoptions during this time while we focus on fixing the facility.

We desperately need donations and volunteers from the community to make it all happen. A couple of very generous donors are paying to replace the roof. A kind supporter donated flexible vinyl planks for the floor.

However, we still need to buy paint, flooring adhesive, concrete floorpatch, lumber, etc. The cost to repair the watermain leak is unknown at this point (gulp). If you can make a donation to help with the expense we would be extremely grateful.

We desperately need volunteer workers to make it all happen. If you have home improvement or handyman skills, we could really use your help. We also need people who don’t have those skills to wield a wire brush, paint, clean, etc. Most big projects are going to be done Friday through Sunday.

We will re-open Friday, July 28, 2023 at 11 am with a new look, ready to resume our work helping needy and endangered cats in northern Nevada. Thank you for helping!

Meow!
